Listen Live Problems

Station News — ghi07, June 14, 2011, 9:10 am

Our online audio works with a variety of operating systems and browsers such as Windows XP and Internet Explorer; Windows 7 with Internet Explorer or Google Chrome; Android; iPhone; Apple OS.

However there are some problems that can prevent you receiving the stream. If you are having difficulties here is a list of things you can try:

  1. Try streaming another radio station in Australia. For example make sure you can hear ABC Classical Music reliably (abc.net.au/classic/audio/streaming.htm). If you can’t then there may be a problem with your network or system.
  2. The easiest thing you can try is to reboot your computer, smart-phone or iPhone. If this resolves the problem then you may have hardware or software issues. Make sure your software is up to date with all the latest fixes and that you have sufficient RAM and free disk space.
  3. If you are having drop-outs (the audio stops and starts) then the problem may be that your internet connection is not fast enough. This may be a result of the speed of your internet plan, or the number of other users your Internet Service Provider (ISP) has in your local area. Check for other problems below, but you may need to contact your ISP to get help with this.
  4. Clear your browser cache. If you are not sure how to do this just use your favourite search engine to find instructions. For example, search for “How to clear google chrome cache”. Note that clearing cache may be blocked in some workplaces.
  5. If you are trying to listen at work remember that some workplaces block streaming. You will need to contact your IT department to check if this applies to you. If you can listen at home but not at work then this is most likely the reason.
  6. Try another computer. For example if it works on your friend’s computer but not yours then it may point to to a problem with your system. If your friend is using a different ISP then that may point to a problem with your provider.

If you have read and acted on all of the information above and still can’t listen please get in touch by filling in this form. Please supply as much information as you can about the results of the diagnostic checks listed above.
